Our vision

A Ugandan society where children battling cancer live with hope and dignity.

A nurse’s perspective

Care must reach beyond the hospital walls.

Founder Atuhaire Aurelia is a paediatric palliative care nurse with more than 15 years of nursing experience. Through her work, she saw how poverty, transport costs, stigma and isolation can break a family’s circle of care.

Little Heroes was born to complete that circle—supporting children and caregivers at the hospital, at home and throughout the cancer journey.

Our initiatives

The whole child. The whole family.

Cancer affects every part of life. Our work is designed to answer the full range of needs surrounding a child’s care.

Awareness & Advocacy

We raise awareness about childhood cancer, helping communities recognise early warning signs, seek timely care, and connect children and families to appropriate health services.

Family Support

We support families throughout the cancer journey through practical assistance, emotional support, support groups, peer networks, and bereavement care—helping families feel supported and better able to remain in care.

Holistic Palliative Care

We provide compassionate palliative care that addresses the whole person. Our support responds to children’s and families’ physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs through hospital and community-based care.

Childhood Beyond Illness

A child is more than their illness. We promote education, play, creativity, and meaningful experiences that help children continue learning, growing, enjoying childhood, and holding on to hope and possibility.
